Personal Independence Payment (PIP): Guidelines.
The Personal Independence Payment (PIP). Is a transfer payment made available by the UK government to help people in poor health or with disabilities, to cover their expenses? Subsidies are awarded in some amount between £21.80 and £139.75 a week, depending on the individual applicant’s needs. Who Can Apply?
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is only available to ill or disabled individuals over 16 and under 64 years of age. If you are younger or older than that. You must apply to programs explicitly tailored to juveniles, or the elderly which will better handle your needs. It is a must that you live in the UK at the time of your application, and have lived in Great Britain for at least 2 of the past three years. You must also be a resident of the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.
Also, you must be free of any special immigration restrictions. There are no physical requirements. However; you may be considered for this payment regardless of your income, level of savings, or work status. And any of these can change at any time during your receipt of these benefits without affecting the amount you receive.
How To Claim the Personal Independence Payment.
To apply for PIP. The first step is to contact the Department of Work and Pensions on the PIP helpline number 0843 455 0087 and request the proper form (DS1500). This form needs to be completed correctly. The citizen’s advice service can help you fill in the form, by making an appointment or take a look at this help page. The PIP payment is composed of two parts. The daily living component, and the mobility component. Each has an upper and lower tier pay rate. You may qualify for one or the other depending on the results of your medical assessment.
This process will determine to what extent your ill health or disability hamper you in your day-to-day life. Since the payment is intended to help defray the cost of assistance and equipment that most people would not need, your level of impairment must be substantial; for example, you might have difficulty carrying out proper grooming routines or interacting appropriately with other people, or use a cane or wheelchair. Mild impairments receive the standard payouts, while severe ones qualify for the enhanced tier of support.
What Else Do I Need To Know
The exception to this is if you have a terminal illness which is expected to end your life in 6 months or less. Regardless of whether or not this illness is physically crippling to you at the time of your application, it is considered to be debilitating and will automatically qualify you for the maximum daily living component of the payment. The mobility component must still be separately assessed, however. It will typically take up to three weeks for the final decision to be made. If you are denied PIP support, you may later appeal the decision and have your claim reassessed.
